Setup in 5 Steps
Power On Your Detector
Turn on your Uniden detector. Bluetooth is enabled by default on the R4, R8, and R9 — no pairing mode needed.
Open rDetect & Connect
Tap the connection icon in the app. rDetect scans for nearby detectors automatically. Tap your detector to pair.
Explore the Dashboard
Once connected, the dashboard shows live signal status, GPS, speed, and voltage. Drive normally — alerts appear instantly when your detector picks up a signal.
Customize Your Setup
Adjust muting rules, enable voice alerts, set speed thresholds, and create settings profiles for city vs highway driving.
First Drive Tips
Let Lockouts Learn
Drive your regular routes 2-3 times. rDetect auto-learns and suppresses false alerts at known locations.
Start with Defaults
The default muting settings work well for most drivers. Fine-tune after a few drives once you see how alerts behave.
Enable Voice Alerts
Spoken alerts keep your eyes on the road. Enable in Settings > Voice Alerts.
Try Apple Watch
If you have an Apple Watch, alerts appear on your wrist with haptic feedback. No setup needed.
Add POIs
Mark speed traps, school zones, and custom waypoints. rDetect warns you with voice alerts as you approach.
Common Questions
Detector not appearing?
Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your iPhone and your detector is powered on and within range (about 30 feet). Try power-cycling the detector.
Connection drops frequently?
Keep your phone within Bluetooth range. If iOS is aggressively managing power, go to Settings > Bluetooth and ensure rDetect has permission. rDetect automatically reconnects when the detector is back in range.
GPS lockouts not working?
Lockouts need 2-3 encounters at the same location before they activate. Drive your usual routes a few times and the system will learn automatically.
